Sebon! the Artist
A classically trained painter in the Beaux Arts tradition, Sebon! has received acclaim as a significant member of the take-command generation of Caribbean abstract expressionist painters who broke the ice for a renewed and refurbished practice of figurative based art with his multi-horizoned and confrontational surreal paintings and political landscapes. In recent years, he has expanded his vision to include narrative and folkloric elements, laying pathways for his current psychologically intense artworks which grapple with powerful themes of his human experience - suffering, oppression, sexuality, death, mystery - yet which are imbued with a clarity and brilliance of color which symbolizes his belief in the future. In his own words, Sebon! states "We exploited people all around this world, the sufferers left behind, must make arts be useful as weapons to win a better tomorrow."
